The road out of TN13
M26 to the M20 and the Folkestone shuttle, then a long continental run across Belgium, Germany and Austria. On a route of this length the crossing matters less than the driving-hours plan, which is settled before the load is built.
From Calais the E40 runs through Belgium to Aachen, then the German A4 and A3 past Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg. The A3 and A8 continue to Salzburg and into Austria, where the A10 runs south through the Tauern tunnels to Villach and over the border at Karawanks into Slovenia. Ljubljana is then straightforward; Maribor branches east and the coast runs south-west.

Slovenia applies the standard transfer-of-residence relief on used household effects. The system runs on registration of a permanent or temporary address, and Slovenian administration is efficient and largely digital once that registration exists.

A small country with a real winter
Slovenia is compact enough that the destination rarely adds much to the journey once the border is behind you, and the motorway network is genuinely good. What does change the plan is altitude: a house above Bled or in the Bohinj valley in February is a different proposition from the same house in June.
So Alpine and lake deliveries are surveyed for the season as well as for the address. Vehicle size, the condition of the final approach and whether a shuttle is needed are all established before the quotation rather than argued about on a mountain road.
On the coast and in the Karst the constraint is age rather than weather. Piran and the older Karst villages have streets that will not take a full-size vehicle at all, and the arrangement there is the same as it would be in a Tuscan hill town — a smaller vehicle and a carry, planned in advance.

- Is Slovenia a long way?
- On a map, yes. In practice it is motorway almost the whole distance, and the driving is easier than several shorter European routes. The quotation carries an estimated window for your own consignment.
- Do you use the Austrian tunnels?
- The Tauern route south from Salzburg and then the Karawanks tunnel into Slovenia is the usual line. Vignettes and tolls for the whole route are accounted for in the quotation.
- Can you deliver to a lake house in winter?
- With planning. The season is part of the survey on Alpine addresses — vehicle size, the final approach and whether a shuttle is needed are settled before we quote.
- What about Piran and the old coastal towns?
- Historic centres there are closed to large vehicles. We shuttle in with something smaller and carry the last stretch, which is arranged in advance rather than discovered.
- Is the paperwork difficult?
- Proportionate, and the administration is quick once your address registration exists. An inventory, proof of both addresses and the transfer-of-residence declaration.
- Is a shared load possible?
- Less often than on the busier corridors, simply because fewer vehicles run it. Where a shared load is available the saving is significant; where it is not we will say so rather than leave you waiting indefinitely.
