Tile-hung and timber-framed houses with lime plaster, uneven oak boards and glass that cannot be replaced like for like. Nothing about the furniture is difficult here; everything about the surfaces is.

Where the fabric at risk is outside the building — a gravel drive that rutts, a grass verge that marks, a York stone path, a gatepost with a measured gap. The house is often the easy part.

Goods collected, inventoried at the property and held. Where a load includes veneered, inlaid or unsealed timber, how it is held matters as much as that it is held, and we will say so rather than treat everything alike.

Long-distance work from Sevenoaks. Distance raises the packing standard rather than simply adding mileage, and on a load of old furniture that difference is the whole argument.

That last one is why two houses of identical size in this district can quote differently, and it is also why we will tell you when your house does not need it. Selling protection to somebody with plasterboard walls and an engineered floor would be the easiest thing on this site to do.
